Many fans have long theorized that Bludworth is the very personification of Death or a major representative of it. However, this has been confirmed to be false by the producers.

Now in Paris, the film ends with Carter saving Alex from a falling neon sign, but the sign swings back and kills Carter instead. However, in Final Destination 2, Clear reveals, to Kimberly Corman, that Alex died by being bludgeoned on the head by a dislodged brick from a nearby building.

He speaks with an intimidating, ragged, baritone voice. Bludworth caught them in the act and asked why they came. He told them that they had cheated Death by getting off the doomed Flight aircraft, but now Death has a new design for all of them. Offering his help, he explains to them about the rule of Death: those who cheat death will be revisited by Death once more to claim back their lives which should've been lost.

He also tells them about Death's List, a list of the order of deaths of the survivors in the original incident, and how it will work on them once again. Finally, he states about how ruining the list can affect the remaining survivors.

William, who cremates the body of the recently deceased Evan Lewis , only mentions to them that new life can defeat Death. Originally thought that Isabella Hudson 's pregnancy can give new life, Kimberly's second premonition revealed that she is the only one who can cheat Death. The second time they met was at Candice 's death. They met him again at the scene of Isaac 's demise, where he told them of Death's design, and by taking a life can they live, for they will receive the lifespan of the person they've killed, in turn scratch their name off Death's list and taking the lifespan of the other person.

An epilogue explains what ultimately became of all of them none die and then the movie ends. So in the final destination movies, the characters die the same order the would have had in the premonition.

Then, in stealth prequel Final Destination 5, Bludworth advises the characters that only by killing someone else can they go on living, as doing so allows them to take over that person's lifespan. This leads to lots of likely unnecessary deaths, and again, doesn't seem to solve anything, as everyone remaining dies in the plane explosion that began Final Destination. Bludworth may not be Death itself, but he's clearly either much less knowledgeable than he lets on, or is simply tormenting the characters for fun.
