Which angels went to sodom

And what is the significance of three versus two? Although the Torah does not mention the names of the angels that went to visit Abraham, the Talmud tells us they were Raphael, Michael and Gabriel. Bava Metzia 86b. Throughout most of their interaction, the Torah does not refer to them on an individual basis, but rather as a group, as it is written, "[Abraham] stood over THEM beneath the tree and THEY ate.

There are, however, instances in which the angels act as individuals. For example, only the angel Michael told Sarah that she was going to have a baby Genesis In Sodom, only the angel Raphael told Lot to flee from the city Genesis Similarly, it was only the angel Gabriel that informed Lot that the city was going to be destroyed. From these verses, we can derive that an angel can only perform one mission: Gabriel's mission was to destroy Sodom; Michael's mission was to inform Sarah that she would give birth in a year's time; Raphael's mission was to heal Abraham and save Lot.

Although Raphael's mission included two tasks, they were considered a single mission since they were both acts that saved people. Talmud - Bava Metzia 86b, Rashi - Genesis and This now helps us understand your question: Why did three angels come to Abraham, but only two go to Lot? The answer is that since Michael's sole mission was to tell Sarah she would become pregnant, he had no business in Sodom. Therefore, upon leaving Abraham's tent he went back to his post at God's Holy Throne.

Only two of them mention sexual sins at all. So I removed them when I saw it. Jude 7 says that Sodom and Gomorrah "gave themselves up to sexual immorality and perversion. This phrase likely refers to the attempted rape of angels, given that Jude 6 refers to the Nephilim of Genesis 6 "the angels who did not keep their positions of authority but abandoned their proper dwelling".

That was not the original interpretation of the Sodom story, which dates back to the 14th century BC. Isaiah 1 equates the sin of Sodom with oppressing marginalized groups, murder, and theft. Jeremiah links it with adultery, idolatry, and power abuses.

Amos and Zephaniah compare it to the oppression of the poor, as well as prideful and mocking behavior. At that point, the angels went to Sodom, but the Lord stayed behind and talked with Abraham.

So sending the angels to act on His behalf was viewed by God as being the same as going there Himself. This is yet another example of the aforementioned principle in action. After all, He spoke the entire universe into existence in all its details. In Creation , we know that all persons of the Trinity were involved. But there are also many places where God chooses to use angels, men, or even animals to accomplish His purpose.

Throughout Scripture, angels delivered messages, carried out judgments, and ministered to the heirs of salvation. Thus, it should be no surprise to learn that angels were instrumental in carrying out this destruction.

The angels did it—or at least some of it. And the Lord did it. Though God destroyed the world by reducing its population through a worldwide flood but one would imagine that the population of the world couldn't have been so much during the first flood and the impact- though felt by virtually everyone--couldn't have been that bad since the only people left alive were Noah and his family.

However in the case of this thriving nation, it's destruction came at a time when the world had already been of immense population and the nations of the world had already been ranked by famous scholars. Imagine destroying the world when the nations of the world had no name, now picture destroying one nation or two great states inbetween other thriving states and nations. Imagine the terror, the fear and the terrible acts that must have been the order of the day in a nation like that.

If the Bible has taught us anything, it is that God is not one to be provoked easily. So it brings the question of what these states must have done to deserve such destruction. What could they have possibly been doing, what could have been their way of life.

If you havent gotten the states I am talking about by now, I guess I should remind you about the popular "Sodom and Gomorrah". Sodom and Gomorrah were two great states that was known all over the country side and the entirety of the old world. I imagine that they were once the Babylon of the old world, the trading spot, the states where everyone goes to have a good time. Perhaps the Las Vegas of those times.
